Publisher: Lady Bird Books Ltd.
“The Little Mermaid” is a fairy tale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. It tells the story of a young mermaid who falls in love with a human prince and makes a deal with a sea witch to give up her tail and become human in order to pursue her love. However, the price she pays for this transformation is a heavy one, as she must give up her beautiful voice and endure excruciating pain every time she walks or dances on land. The prince does not reciprocate her feelings, and ultimately marries someone else, leaving the little mermaid heartbroken. In the end, she is given the chance to return to the sea and live out her life as a mermaid, but at the cost of never being able to see the prince again. The story explores themes of sacrifice, unrequited love, and the pursuit of happiness at any cost.
